Garrucha

The little port and town of Garrucha lie just to the north of Mojácar. There are many fish restaurants along the front and a new marina is under construction.

Garrucha is a typically Spanish town and has a lively market each Friday.

The port is working both as a fishing port and also industrial with large bulk carrying vessels being frequent visitors.

The beaches to the south join up with Mojácar whilst to the north the golden sand stretches beyond Vera Playa.

  Mojácar

Situated in the north of the province of Almería, there are two centres to Mojácar - the Pueblo and the Playa. The Playa is obviously on the beach whilst the Pueblo is a couple of kilometers away in an elevated position overlooking the sea.

Mojácar Pueblo is beautiful Moorish town which (as you approach) looks like a jumble of houses all piled on top of each other. It's elevated position, between the mountains of the Sierra Cabrera and the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean, affords excellent views in all directions.

The collection of houses, shops, bars, restaurants is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the real Moorish flavour of the town.

Mojácar Playa stretches out along the edge of the warm Mediterranean Sea and is the largest tourist area in the north of Almería province.

Here you will find the main hotels and tourist attractions normally associated with a resort of this size.

Moácar can be reached easily from both Murcia airport (40 minutes) or Almería airport (50 minutes)

This is the most northerly village of the province of Almería just before it's border with the province of Murcia. It is a beautiful small village with, arguably, the best beaches in the area and certainly the safest.

With Mojácar some 30km south and the Spanish town of Águilas only 9km to the north it is a great centre for seeing all the sites of the area. And there are many coves and small beaches along this stretch of coast and some great coastal walks linking the bays to the north.

San Juan has it's own golf course - Golf Aguillón situated in the foothills of the surrounding range. An 18 hole par 70 course with panoramic views over the whole of San Juan and surrounding area. A second golf course is under construction and scheduled for completion by the end of 2008.

San Juan is best arrived at from Murcia airport which is about half an hours drive along the new and quite toll motorway. Almería airport is about one hour away.

Situated just a few kilometers north of Garrucha, Vera Playa boasts a long golden beach, with café bars and restaurants. At the northern end of the beach you will find the largest naturist area in Almería, complete with its own complex.

There is much for the tourist in this popular area and it is also a good base for exploring the rest of this beautiful coastal region.

The Aqua Park is situated here and there are also many other sporting and recreational activities close by.

In between Vera Playa and San Juan de los Terreros is the little fishing village of Villaricos.

There is a strong fishing community here, as well as several unspoilt beaches.

The surrounding countryside is stunning with the entire stretch of coastline sheltered by the dramatic Sierra Almagrera mountain.

The village of Villaricos has several quaint cafés, bars and restaurants, and, although it is quite small the visitor should be able to find everything needed for an enjoyable stay.

If peace and quiet is what you are after then you will find no better place.
